IT Infrastructure Architect to join our team!
The Infrastructure Architect will play a pivotal role in designing and implementing robust, scalable, and secure infrastructure solutions that meet the evolving needs of the organization. This position requires expertise in
network architecture,
data center compute and storage,
cloud architecture, and foundational IT services.
This role is an individual contributor who will provide informal leadership and guidance to members of the Enterprise Networking and Data Center Operations team. This is a hybrid role that will require weekly onsite presence at our locations in Muscatine, IA.
Key Responsibilities
Network Design
- Design and architect enterprise-level network infrastructures, ensuring scalability, security, and performance across data centers, branches, and remote sites.
- Evaluate and select network technologies, including LAN/WAN, wireless, firewalls, VPN, and SD-WAN solutions.
- Collaborate with network engineers to implement solutions for routing, switching, load balancing, and high availability.
- Design and manage network segmentation and micro-segmentation for secure environments.
- Optimize the network to support cloud and hybrid cloud architectures.
Data Center Compute & Storage
- Architect data center compute environments, focusing on virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V, etc.), server hardware, and software-defined infrastructure.
- Design and optimize storage solutions, including SAN, NAS, and hyper-converged infrastructures.
- Work with system administrators to ensure compute and storage solutions meet performance and capacity needs.
- Lead efforts to refresh legacy compute and storage hardware, ensuring compatibility with emerging technologies and applications.
- Ensure disaster recovery and business continuity strategies are integrated into compute and storage designs.
Cloud Architecture & Design
- Design cloud and hybrid-cloud solutions using public cloud providers (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and private cloud infrastructures.
- Develop strategies for cloud migration and workload optimization.
- Architect scalable and secure cloud services, including IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS models.Collaborate with security teams to ensure compliance and data protection within cloud environments.
- Monitor and optimize cloud usage and costs, implementing automation where applicable (Infrastructure as Code).
Foundational IT Elements
- Design foundational IT services such as DNS, DHCP, IP management, NTP, and authentication services (Active Directory, LDAP).
- Collaborate on the integration of identity and access management (IAM) solutions.
- Ensure the implementation of best practices for security, including role-based access control, multi-factor authentication, and encryption.
- Lead the development and documentation of infrastructure architecture blueprints and standards.
- Stay current with emerging technologies and evaluate their applicability within the organization’s infrastructure.
Collaboration & Leadership
- Work closely with application, security, and DevOps teams to ensure infrastructure solutions meet cross-functional needs.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on infrastructure architecture in discussions with senior management and business stakeholders.
- Provide guidance and mentoring to junior engineers and architects within the team.
- Lead infrastructure projects from concept through execution, ensuring timely and effective delivery.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- 7+ years of experience in IT infrastructure, with at least 3 years in an architecture or senior engineering role.
- Expertise in network architecture, including routing, switching, firewalls, load balancing, and VPN technologies.
- Strong background in data center design, including server virtualization (VMware, Hyper-V), and storage (SAN, NAS, HCI).
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and cloud-native services (containers, microservices, serverless computing).
- Proficient in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools (Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation).
- In-depth knowledge of security best practices, including network security, identity management, and data encryption.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to present technical solutions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Cisco Certified Design Expert (CCDE), VMware Certified Professional (VCP), or other relevant certifications.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with automation and orchestration tools (e.g., Puppet, Chef, Kubernetes).
- Experience with hybrid cloud integration and multi-cloud architectures.
- Familiarity with compliance frameworks such as SOC2, HIPAA, or GDPR.
- Demonstrated experience with large-scale infrastructure modernization projects.
