Role Description:
This position is responsible for interpreting customer’s furniture concepts and specifications to design and draw products for manufacturability and meet customer requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Read and interpret customer’s design specifications
- Create and revise 3D models and 2D shop drawings and sketches for customer approval
- Collaborate with Project Managers and assist in communications with customers, designers, purchasing, owners, and installers
- Collaborate with Product Engineering and manufacturing to best align design with production capabilities and platforms (e.g., VE, DFM)
- Assist other Design Engineers, as needed, to resolve design challenges or meet project timelines
- Ensure product design meets all customer performance and functional requirements, including conducting “as designed” testing or engineering calculations
- Research and specify decorative hardware, functional hardware and other unique materials or features
- Collaborate with product engineering and purchasing on sourcing purchased components (e.g., “or equal”, obsolesces, or regulatory changes)
- Clearly identify locations of different finishes and/or materials on drawings
- Create stone drawings and other sourced products
- Have good working knowledge of brand standards by customer
- Understand key industry requirements: ADA, electrical codes, etc.
- Create common parts, blocks, details, models and share with Design Engineer TeamMaintain Excel spreadsheets: Series Log, Model Log and Project List
- Review own drawings for accuracy before releasing to Project Manager / customer and filing.
- Ensure product, as designed, can be easily field assembled and installed
- Review and provide feedback to factory on installation instructions
- Assist Project Managers with product testing
- Participate and share ideas to continuously improve the design engineering process

Qualifications:
Educational / Experience
- BS (4-year degree) in Engineering, Engineering Technology or related science preferred, but not required
- 3-5 years of experience in engineering or similar role and demonstrated significant contributions
- Rendering capabilities are a plus, utilizing software such as SketchUp, KeyShot, Blender, 3ds Max, etc.
