GENERAL PURPOSE
To perform this job successfully, the Performance Manager will apply standard engineering principles, concepts, theories, and techniques to routine assignments in support of business objectives and under limited supervision. The Performance Manager will be responsible for providing fundamental engineering leadership and expertise. They will also be creating performance requirements for new and innovative products. They may also conduct feasibility studies, determine manpower and cost estimates, and develop engineering criteria. The Performance Manager will apply originality, ingenuity, and knowledge of other disciplines in solving basic technical issues. Emphasis in the work will be placed on team participation, the ability to plan, and the ability to achieve results on assigned projects.
Essential Functions

- Complete engineering tasks within oversight of leadership.
- Follow engineering and quality processes.
- Seek and receive mentoring from senior level and Engineering leadership.
- Seek the approval of the budget owner using the appropriate request process.
- Take good notes, showing your work and assumptions.
- Apply basic supply chain cost, value stream capabilities, and economic principles.
- Perform additional responsibilities as requested to achieve business objectives.
Additional Essential Functions
- Develop, document, and maintain a comprehensive set of test specifications and acceptance criteria to ensure product safety and quality for global markets.
- Ensure the validity of product performance criteria through evaluation of marketing requirements, customer feedback, field research, competitive product performance, and application of experience.
- Apply statistical techniques to ensure reliable product performance.
- Continuously improve product performance tests and criteria to capture learning, enhance product performance, decrease warranty, and increase customer satisfaction.
- Create complex test plans to evaluate a wide range of products for the purpose of ensuring reliable performance and compliance to industry standards while minimizing testing costs and time.
- Document, summarize, and communicate the status of validation testing with project teams. You will identify and communicate product performance risks and initiate plans to minimize risk.
- Investigate and track various modes of product failure. You will aid Product Engineers in root cause investigation and implement new tests and acceptance criteria to evaluate and prevent recurrence.
- Participate in and influence external standards development activities such as BIFMA.
- Performs frequent on-site review of products to determine areas of concern, review throughout testing, and investigate problems.
- Collaborates with our internal and external test labs to design and maintain repeatable test methods
Qualifications

Skills And Abilities
- A bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited program.
- Two to four years of professional engineering experience, or zero to three years of specialty engineering experience, applicable internship/co-op experience, and experience participating in and leading projects.
- Project management experience (may be essential for some assignments).
- Knowledge in Lean principles and their application.
- The ability to assess process concepts and determine where continuous improvement opportunities exist.
- The ability to communicate effectively with people at various levels, including Production, Engineering, and management, and the ability to work well with and develop a partnering relationship with other team members.
- Knowledge in the use of common office automation, communication, software, tools, MillerKnoll applications, and engineering-related software. Knowledge in SharePoint, Minitab, and Reliasoft are a plus.
- Problem-solving skills and the ability to apply engineering expertise to solving problems.
- The ability to assess priorities and determine a course of action with minimal day-to-day supervision and the ability to anticipate, recognize, and respond effectively to changes which affect project plans.
- An overall business sense and an understanding of how decisions impact business results.
- The ability to perform all essential job functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
Additional Skills And Abilities
- Experience working in a mechanical laboratory environment using electronic instrumentation and performing data analysis.
- Experience writing test methods and product performance specifications.
- Experience applying statistics to test data and interpreting results.
