Our Critical Facilities practice area is unique, having the ability to draw expertise from and collaborate with all of Gensler’s practice areas to serve clients based on the client’s industry—for example building teams of experts in Gensler’s Critical Facilities and Health and Wellness Practices to deliver data centers for healthcare providers. Beyond data centers, our critical facilities team delivers projects for high-performance/ research/ supercomputing, command and control centers, SCIFs, distribution and logistics, high-tech manufacturing, and various other technology-rich project types.
Critical Facilities at Gensler goes back to the 1980s, growing out of our Financial Services practice, where clients were increasingly building technology-rich environments to support electronic trading. For many years the practice was a loose network of individuals who developed this expertise, and eventually came together officially as a practice area in 1997 as the need for large scale data centers was beginning. Since 1997, Gensler has been one of the leading firms delivering Critical Facilities projects, ranked amongst the top 3 data center architects for the past 10 years. Our CF team currently has strong presence in North America and Europe with experience in Latin America and Asia that continues to grow.
