Provides design services to dealership customers, including programming, space planning, development of typicals, color boards and digital presentations, working/installation drawings, specifications and site-to-plan review. Works closely with dealership sales, order entry and installation groups, as well as customers, to ensure accurate plans and specifications, conformance to client’s requirements, customer satisfaction and high-quality project implementation.
Design Process
1) With the Account Executive, conducts in-depth programming and produces program report; interviews customer/end users, research workplace requirements, analyzes space/furniture needs.
2) Attends client planning meetings as needed; presents plans and information to customer for review and approvals as needed.
3) Collaborates with sales department to recommend design solutions, provide value engineering, and evaluates orders and proposals to determine feasibility of producing design.
4) Prepares sales presentation package which may include sketches, renderings, drawings, cost estimates and sample boards.
5) Develops and presents block and space plans, gains customer approvals.
6) Develops and presents digital color/finish boards and selections, gains customer approvals.
7) Develops finished working drawings for specification and installation; validates plans against architectural construction documents including electrical and plumbing drawings.
8) Obtains the necessary information and approvals from various departments to make design decisions through constant communication with team members.
9) Develops product specifications; double-checks specifications against plans; gets specifications order-entry ready using CET, AutoCAD, and Spec.
10) Manages changes and revisions.
11) Reviews punch list with project managers and/or installation group.
Departmental Practices
12) Estimates design project time; tracks time in designated system; manages actual time against project estimates.
13) Maintains detailed and extensive project documentation, including records of all key decisions, phone conversations, approvals and signoffs, and notes from all project planning meetings.
14) Manages adherence to project schedule, internal dealership budget, customer’s project budget, design task completions and quality of design work.
15) Communicates regularly to team members re: design project status and collaborates with team to resolve issues throughout the project.
16) Performs plotting, printing, color boards, digital presentations, etc. for client and dealership transmittals.
17) Ensures complete and accurate transmittal of project planning data to order entry/management, project management and installation groups.
Contract Furniture/Design Industry Knowledge
18) Maintains strong knowledge of interior design field and current practices.
19) Understands workplace environment issues (ergonomics, technology integration, teaming, alternative officing, etc.).
20) Has a working knowledge of applicable building codes, ADA regulations, National Electrical Code, National Fire Codes, etc.
21) Has a working knowledge of the dealership’s contract furniture lines, including features/benefits, pricing, application and assembly, specification options and nomenclature, etc.
22) Understands contract furniture processes, including order preparation, project management, order management and delivery/installation.
23) Assists with special projects and performs additional tasks as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
1) Minimum of three years of experience in commercial contract furniture industry design; experience with Herman Miller and/or Knoll products extremely helpful
2) Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design
3) State of Florida Register Interior Design (Preferred)
4) NCIDQ Certification (Preferred)
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
1) Proficiency in AutoCAD, Project Spec (or Cap 2020) and CET (Configura)
2) Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Outlook
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
1) Working conditions are normal for an office environment. Must be able to operate computer for most of workday with appropriate rest periods.
2) Valid driver’s license and driving record which meets Company insurance carrier requirements.
