We are hiring an Environmental Engineer to consult and provide guidance to Steelcase Inc. subsidiaries and divisions worldwide.
What You Will Be Doing:
You will provide technical leadership in developing, implementing and overseeing corporate environmental programs. These programs minimize environmental impact, meet corporate goals, minimize health and natural resource liabilities and ensure compliance with Federal, State and local laws and regulations.
- Review and monitor ongoing compliance, certification and/or sustainability activities for assigned projects.
- Ensure proper communication with internal and external customers.
- Evaluate specific impact of pending sustainability requirements on Steelcase processes and operations.
- Create required compliance and/or sustainability documentation, reports, applications, etc. under the direction of the immediate supervisor and ensure that records are current & accessible.
- Represent Steelcase Sustainability at conferences and meetings.
- Promote sustainability and advocate for improvements in environmental performance and social responsibility and understand the economic impact of sustainability.
- Distinguish and communicate potential risk areas.
- Identify, recommend and assist with implementation of appropriate measures to eliminate or minimize environmental and/or brand risk and liability.
- Participate with other Steelcase groups in supporting, pursuing & performing sustainability-related activities.
Required Skills and Competencies:
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering or equivalent science degree
- Excellent overall knowledge of environmental requirements applicable to Steelcase with an ability to apply that knowledge into a multi-facility environment
- Expert disciplinary capabilities in an assigned media (air, water, waste), with the ability to cross disciplines
Preferred Skills and Competencies:
- At least 3 years of work experience on technical sustainability issues or military equivalent experience
