Job Overview
We are currently looking for a Welder Operator to join our team in Big Rapids.
Sets up and operates machine/equipment to produce quality (as defined by Haworth quality standards) parts per blueprints, product orders, and engineering specifications, within tolerance. Proficiently performs weld parameter adjustments, operator preventive maintenance (PM), and troubleshoots MIG weld and spot weld equipment.
Major Responsibilities
- Sets up, maintains, and operates machine/equipment per production orders and engineering specifications to produce quality parts/materials.
- References production orders to determine sizes, types, and quantities of product to be produced.
- Frequently loads, unloads, and/or positions materials/parts, weighing up to 50 pounds, occasionally more (assistance given with heavier objects by work partner[s]), requiring bending, lifting, reaching, pulling, pushing, and/or twisting.
- Monitors program(s), machine(s) and equipment to avoid damage. Informs supervisor and maintenance personnel of any major mechanical problems with equipment, using required protocol; assumes responsibility to fix minor problems. Ensures optimum operations by cleaning equipment and replacing worn bits and accessories as needed. Performs PM as needed.
- Understands established quality standards and performs first-piece inspection and other required quality checks, per work area and inspection instructions, possibly utilizing precision measuring instruments including, but not limited to, calipers, scales, micrometers, metering gauges, tape measures, steel rules, and depth gauges; completes charts of measured data. Adjusts machines as needed to meet product specification requirements.
- Documents product non-conformance in writing and verbally reports to designated area personnel, per departmental procedures.
- Verifies “Quantity of Parts - Completed” is correct on production order request before parts leave department.
- Reports potential machine or area hazards to Supervisor.
- Maintains safety and cleanliness of work area by performing various housekeeping duties, including work center preventive maintenance.
- Performs and/or cross-trains on other job functions and/or duties as required.
- Completes appropriate paperwork.
- Meets daily production requirements.
Do you meet these qualifications?
EDUCATION
- Tenth grade education or equivalent.
- Up to six months training required.
WORK REQUIREMENTS And EXPERIENCE
- Two years production experience required, including six months related welding experience.
ENVIRONMENTAL and PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Moderate exposure to dust, noise, solvent, heat, paint, and lubricants.
- Large machinery and equipment used in work area.
- Eye protection required; hearing protection may be required.
- Lifts material/product weighing up to 50 pounds, occasionally more, and/or moves material/product weighing various amounts (assistance given with heavier objects).
- Walks, bends, twists, turns, and lifts while performing functions of position.
- Constant mental and visual alertness required to avoid potential serious injury to self and others in work group.

- May require good visual, color, depth perception, and hand/eye coordination.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints/drawings.
- Ability to use precision measuring instruments.
- Knowledgeable of raw materials and specialized tooling used in work area.
- Good communication skills.
- Mechanical aptitude.
- Demonstrated manual dexterity and speed.
- Ability to work as contributing member within team environment.
- Ability to frequently lift/move material weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Personal computer (PC) and keyboard/mouse skills preferred.
