Your Role
As a market-facing Architect with deep knowledge and experience, you will join the team to build our book of business in the
Hospitality market sector through thought leadership and cultivating strategic relationships. You are adept at business development while also taking on a leadership role on projects. Working collaboratively within the region and Gensler network, you will help shape how we get the work, lead the dialogue on design innovation, and help mentor the next generation of design professionals.
The Oakland office is seeking a Regional Practice Area Leader for the
Hospitality market sector to assume a key leadership role. The qualified candidate will have exceptional client relationship skills and a portfolio of innovative architectural design solutions with an emphasis on built work.
What You Will Do
- As a thought and knowledge leader, seller, and doer, you will work in concert with the office’s senior leadership developing and executing strategies to grow the region’s hospitality design practice through expanding existing client relationships and developing new lines of work
- Serve as the Market Leader for the Oakland Office for Hospitality design, working on a variety of simultaneous projects from the conceptual design through design development phases
- Develop collaborative relationships in the firm, with clients, and with other key constituents
- Collaborate with design teams to deliver informed project solutions based on market expertise and deep understanding of client goals
- Work closely with office and studio leaders to identify and recruit best-in-class talent
- Partner with leadership to establish budgetary framework and investment strategies for the practice area
- Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, and work plans
- Lead relationships with the client, contractor, agencies, as well as engineering and specialty consultants
- Prepare and review proposals, contracts, and consultant agreements
- Foster strategic Hospitality business development.
- Management of clients, including project organization and successful start-up.
- Work in collaboration with other Gensler leaders in this Practice Area to leverage the capabilities of the Firm and help build the Hospitality architecture practice within our Northwest region.
- Partner with regional leadership to develop a standard of practice that addresses the unique requirements of this market sector.
- Collaborate with our Hospitality Interiors leadership.
- Develop client and practice strategies, market positioning and leadership within a design practice focused on Hospitality projects.
- Focus on talent development and acquisition.
Your Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Architecture, or Design
- Registered Architect with at least 15 years of experience; inclusive of 10+ years experience in an architecture and design firm in marketing, client development, and/or management of a studio, practice group, or regional office
- Possess an expansive portfolio of high-quality built work that compliments the firm’s current portfolio
- Excellent presentation and interview skills; ability to sell planning solutions to the highest level of decision makers (presidents, deans, chairs, facility leads, etc.), and to speak holistically about planning/issues/trends, in interviews and conferences
- While maintaining design excellence, ability to develop hospitality marketing and business development strategies that both provide the greatest value and respond to clients’ tactical and strategic objectives
- Experience developing relationships with new and existing clients that would enhance the firm’s competitive advantage and positioning in the Hospitality market sector.
- Experience in hotel conceptual planning, development and direction of architectural projects within the market sector.
- Proven track record of success in working in a senior management role with a minimum of three (3) large clients, including participation in development of client relationships that lead to new and continuing business.
- Proven leadership and management skills, including the ability to develop collaborative relationships that lead to successful results, within the firm and externally – with clients, consultants, and other key participants in the design and development process.
- Experience working with clients and municipal agencies in the San Francisco/Northern California area.
- Strong presentation skills with the ability to be articulate and convincing in interviews and other presentations.
- Versatile, self-motivated.
- A commitment to the principles of sustainable design and experience integrating them on specific projects.
- LEED AP preferred; committed to the principles of sustainable design and resilient communities
- The base salary will be estimated between $130,000 - 190,000 plus bonuses and benefits and contingent on relevant experience.
